A fan of Fan

There is a little store at the far and quiet end of Floral Street, away from the boisterous Piazza and the sea of people on Long Acre, this oasis is called McClintock and it's an eyewear Paradise if you are looking for gorgeous spectacles to complement your confident sense of style.

This is where I met Guillaume from the creative duo behind Fan Optics, whose launch McClintock was hosting. This is a new eyewear brand for the ones of you who like to wear something that will make you stand out of the crowd, in a clean design with added character!

All six Fan Optics designs are handmade in Essex, each one in beautifully acetates and bucolic names like Ailen meaning ‘Made of Oak’, Brock meaning ‘Badger’ or Denver meaning ‘Green Valley’. Here are some of my favorites

McClintock not only hosted Fan Optics' launch party but also entertained lots of super cool spectacle-wearing people and this lady in her Cutler&Gross square cat-eyes is one of my favorites!

Hoet inspired by Pierrot?

I met Jozefien from Belgian eyewear brand Hoet at Mido this year, she showed me her super quirky range but what caught my attention were these lovely Alice titanium frames with genuine pearl

The asymmetry of the frame, with that one, lonely pearl somehow reminds me of a very famous character from my teenage French classes, the melancholic Pierrot

or the Canadian photographer Arnaud Mags, famous for his serial portraits, as Pierrot himself.

Bouncy Brunette Locks and Fluttering Eyelashes

Sometimes the most simple of ideas produce the most bold sunglasses, yet very few maintain a link with the initial thought that bought them about, like these witty Tatty Devine sunglasses. Eyelashes?? of course! One of the first things that springs to mind when thinking about eyes, yet the last thing you would think of as the inspiration for sunglasses but Harriet and Rosie worked their magic again!

I like to compare these sunglasses to another gorgeous tongue-in-cheek creation, this time by Vivienne Westwood: the hair-scarf! , I remember they came in various colours, or should I say hair dyes, purple, grey even royal blue...It is impossible to find anymore of them, even on e-bay so I tried to remember what they looked like and I came up with this

design by Eyespectacle

When I was still living in Italy I used to design Vivienne's eyewear collections and I remember discussing the brief for a new pair of glasses with the same screen print used on the scarfs but this time sandwiched in between two layers of acetate, lucky I still kept an OLD catalog, from 1999, so I can share them with you.

Ho many memories, I must share some more of them with you...
